History

The Water Futures Partnership was established in 2009 by SABMiller - one of the world’s largest brewers, WWF - the world’s leading conservation organisation, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH - who are recognised leaders in sustainable freshwater management.

Over the last three years, SABMiller, GIZ and WWF have worked together on watersheds in mainly four countries: Peru, South Africa, Tanzania and Ukraine. The Partnership is now incorporating watersheds in a further four countries - India, USA, Honduras and Colombia, and in august 2012 the ninth local partnership was launched in Zambia.

In each country, local stakeholders have been engaged to identify and assess the water risks shared by SABMiller’s local businesses, surrounding communities and the environment.
